Excursion to Plitvice Lakes National park

When: Year long
Duration: Full day with transfers, 3 hours tour of NP
From: Zagreb

The oldest , largest, most famous and most visited national park in Croatia and in this part of Europe! According to legend, Plitvice's lakes were created after a long period of drought. Longing for relief, people, animals and nature prayed for their salvation. A Black Queen appeared and along with her came a strong wind that began to blow furiously. Soon afterwards the rain poured down in such volume that it created lakes.
The crown jewels of the park are 16 lakes which are divided into two sections, Upper and Lower Lakes. The Upper Lakes, including the largest and deepest Kozjak Lake ( 47 m ), are surrounded by forests and luscious vegetation while the Lower Lakes have more karstic features and steep shores surrounded by cliffs with several caves. The main attraction of the park are Waterfalls. You will see them and hear them everywhere you go. The 78 m tall Big Waterfall is connecting the Plitvica stream with the Lower Lakes and that body of water is flowing into the Korana River. The whole region is covered with snow from November till the end of March.  In December and January, all the lakes freeze over creating a magical winter landscape.
Sport shoes are highly recommended for this program!

Excursion to Istria

When: Year round
Duration: Full day
From:Istria, Rijeka, Opatija, Zagreb

The largest Adriatic peninsula is the top excursion destination thanks to its versatility and good tourist offer all year round. Istria has many historical landmarks dating from the Classical period, Byzantine art ( Euphrasian Basilica, Porec ), medieval churches with beautiful frescos and some beautiful buildings from the Habsburg period. Nature’s beauties are equally splendid, the well known Brijuni NP is just one example. This archipelago near Pula is the blend of nature’s beauty and cultural heritage. Once a fancy tourist resort for the affluent people that had a pool with the heated sea water more than a 100 year ago. Still many famous people visit Brijuni. ( Tito, Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Sophia Loren, Jon Bon Jovi, Angelina Jolie and many more.. )
One of the most recognizable features of the central Istria are medieval towns that dominate the hilly landscape. Their streets and squares tell stories of the past but they are also spectacular when you look at them from a distance. It is hard to choose which one is the prettiest : Motovun, Groznjan, Buzet, Buje, Oprtalj, Momjan, Gracisce….
Optional is a journey to Beram, a beautiful medieval village of frescos, Glagoljica script and rich history. Here we’ll be welcomed by our host – the turnkey of St. Mary of the Rocks church, where you’ll see one of the most valuable creations of the Istrian medieval art – “The Dance of Death” fresco.
Arena in Pula is the sixth largest Roman amphitheatre and one of the most preserved in the world. The elliptical colloseum has three floors, constructed in the 1st Century during Emperor Vespasian. Gladiator games are today replaced by spectaculat concerts and festivals during the summer.

Istria is the paradise for the truffle and gastro lovers. The vast majority of restaurants, konobas and rural estates serve meals with this highly praised mushroom. TRUFFLIZE!!!
